Best Boutique Hotels in Reno and Carson City

Reno's independents

The Whitney Peak in downtown Reno is the flagship: non-gaming, non-smoking, with a climbing wall in the lobby (Basecamp) and the CommRow tower's bouldering routes. Rooms are dark, moody, and finished in reclaimed wood. Renaissance Reno Downtown is Marriott-flagged but operates with genuine boutique character — its BookHouse restaurant is one of the better hotel dining rooms in the region. The Morris Burner Hotel is a converted flophouse turned artist-run boutique with rooms designed by different Burning Man artists; it's polarizing but authentic.

Wildflower Village on West 4th is a series of restored motor court cottages run as a small hotel and art commune. Skip it if you want silence — the on-site chapel hosts weddings — but embrace it if you want Reno with weirdness intact. Everywhere else on West 4th is either being renovated or should be avoided; ask the front desk before walking after dark.

Carson City and Genoa

Carson City doesn’t have true boutique stock, but the Bliss Bungalow, an 8-room inn in a converted historic home near the Capitol, is the closest thing. Genoa Country Inn and 1862 David Walley's have the small-property character Reno-adjacent visitors are usually looking for — Genoa's population is 250 and the inn faces Mormon Station State Park. The Nenzel Mansion B&B in Genoa is 4 rooms in an 1874 Italianate house.

For a Virginia City base, the Silverland Inn & Suites is functional rather than boutique but sits on C Street. The real boutique option is the Cobb Mansion B&B, 5 rooms in a Victorian on Millionaires Row. Book directly — none of these show up cleanly on the big OTAs and phone reservations get you the actual owner.
