Spencer Hot Springs near Austin has no hotel attached, but the Cozy Mountain Motel in town puts you 15 miles from a free BLM soak. For a full resort experience, Peppermill Reno pipes geothermal water into its spa tower — not a natural pool, but genuinely thermal-sourced heating and a soaking tub in every top-tier suite. Walley's charges non-guests $30 for pool access, which means weekends get crowded with locals from Gardnerville and Minden. Book a midweek stay if you want the pools quiet at sunrise. Carson Hot Springs smells strongly of sulfur — that's the minerals doing their job, but bring a bag for your swimsuit. Bailey's is remote enough that dinner means driving 8 miles to Beatty or eating whatever you brought; the tubs are private and clean but the property is bare-bones.
