Where to stay on the Las Vegas Strip

The 4.2-mile stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard between Mandalay Bay and the Strat is the default Nevada trip — here is who it actually suits.

Who the Strip is for

The Strip is for first-timers, bachelor and bachelorette groups, convention-goers at the Las Vegas Convention Center or Mandalay Bay, and anyone who wants to walk out of the lobby and be inside a casino, buffet, club or show within 60 seconds. Rooms run $80 to $250 midweek at places like Excalibur, Luxor and Flamingo, and $250 to $600 on weekends at Bellagio, Wynn or the Cosmopolitan. Add roughly $45 a night in resort fees to every rate you see advertised, plus $18 to $25 for self-parking at most properties.

It does not suit light sleepers, families on a tight budget, or drivers who plan to leave the city every morning for Red Rock, Valley of Fire or Hoover Dam. Cab lines at 1am on a Saturday are genuinely 40 minutes, and the walk from the MGM parking garage to your room can be 15 minutes each way.

What's actually within walking distance

From a mid-Strip base like Paris, Horseshoe or Cosmopolitan you can walk to the Bellagio fountains, the High Roller wheel at the LINQ, T-Mobile Arena, the Sphere (across a pedestrian bridge from the Venetian), and roughly 20 casinos without crossing a street at grade. The Strip monorail runs from MGM Grand to Sahara for $6 a ride, useful if you are staying at the north end. South-end resorts like Mandalay Bay and Luxor are connected by a free tram, and Park MGM sits directly across from T-Mobile Arena for Golden Knights and Raiders-adjacent events.

Good to know

Is the Strip walkable end to end?+

Technically yes but it is roughly 4 miles and takes about 90 minutes with pedestrian bridges. Most people walk the mid-Strip cluster and use rideshares for the rest.

Are resort fees really unavoidable?+

On the Strip, essentially yes. Every major property charges $39 to $50 a night. Only a few off-Strip hotels like the Palms have dropped them.
