Las Vegas: the honest family plays
Excalibur, Circus Circus, and MGM Grand market to families, but only some of that marketing survives contact with reality. Excalibur's Tower rooms are cheap and the Fun Dungeon arcade is real, but the casino path to elevators is unavoidable. Circus Circus has the Adventuredome and free circus acts, which genuinely occupy a 7-year-old for a day. Four Seasons Las Vegas (floors 35-39 of Mandalay Bay) is casino-free and has a separate entrance — the best premium option with kids.
Off-Strip, JW Marriott Las Vegas in Summerlin has actual grass, a pool complex sized for families, and Red Rock Canyon 15 minutes away. Green Valley Ranch in Henderson runs a similar play with a beach entry pool. Both are non-Strip trips but the daily cost of losing kids in a casino tower disappears.
Tahoe, Reno, and beyond
Hyatt Regency Incline Village runs Camp Hyatt for ages 3-12 with real programming — nature hikes, beach time, arts. It's the single best kid-focused hotel in Nevada. Zephyr Cove Resort cabins let families spread out with kitchens and a private beach on Lake Tahoe. Peppermill Reno has 5 pools including a family pool separated from the adult tower pool.
For Great Basin trips, Stargazer Inn in Baker is small but genuinely dark-sky programmed for kids. Boulder Dam Hotel in Boulder City is a heritage property that works well for a Hoover Dam family stopover, though there's no pool. Avoid the older Downtown Las Vegas properties with kids — the Fremont Street crowd after 8pm is not family territory.
