The rules that shape the day
Rule one: minors can walk through a casino floor with a parent but cannot linger, stand at a machine, or watch play. Security will move you along politely, and it happens constantly. Plan routes that use the resort's outer corridors or the second-floor walkways where they exist (Wynn, Aria, the Palazzo). Rule two: pool hours matter. Family pools are open 8am-6pm at most resorts; after that they convert to adult-focused daybed scenes with DJs and cocktails.
Rule three: the Strip changes character after 9pm. The volume of drunk adults, promoters, and adult-service flyer-flippers on the sidewalks makes it a rough environment for young kids. Do dinner early, see the fountains or Fall of Atlantis show at 8pm, and be back in the room by 9:30. That's not being cautious; that's what locals with kids actually do.
What's actually good with kids
Real hits: the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay, the Flamingo wildlife habitat (free), the Bellagio Conservatory (free, changes seasonally), the AREA15 immersive complex, the Discovery Children's Museum downtown, and the High Roller observation wheel at sunset. Adventuredome at Circus Circus is a proper indoor amusement park and the only truly kid-first resort on the Strip. Pinball Hall of Fame on Las Vegas Boulevard South is $20 well spent for an hour.
Day trips beat Strip attractions for older kids. Red Rock Canyon scenic drive with a short walk at Ice Box Canyon, Hoover Dam powerplant tour, Valley of Fire with the petroglyphs at Atlatl Rock, or the tortoise habitat at Springs Preserve are all better memories than a $60-per-person Strip attraction. Kids under 5 usually hate the walking distances more than the heat; strollers help but not on escalators.
Where to stay
Best kid options: Excalibur (cheap, pool, arcade, close to MGM's tram), Mandalay Bay (great pool with a wave pool and lazy river), MGM Grand (central, big pool complex), and Circus Circus (dated but the only property with an actual amusement park attached). Vdara and Signature at MGM Grand are non-casino, non-gaming towers with kitchenettes and no smoking, which is a real upgrade with kids under 10.
Skip: Wynn/Encore, Cosmopolitan, the Venetian's Prestige floors, and most boutique properties. Not because they’ll turn you away, but because the vibe is wrong and you’ll feel it. Off-Strip, the JW Marriott in Summerlin and Green Valley Ranch in Henderson are calm, have real pools, and are a 20-minute Uber from the action when you want it.

Yes for Mystere, KA, O, and Michael Jackson ONE (all family-appropriate). No for Zumanity's replacement adult shows or Absinthe, which are 18+ or 21+.
Is the buffet worth it with kids?+
The Bacchanal at Caesars and the Wicked Spoon at Cosmopolitan charge $65-85 per adult; kids 5-10 are usually half. It's expensive but ends the picky-eater negotiation.
