Who Beatty is for
Beatty suits Death Valley visitors who want to be a 20-minute drive from Rhyolite ghost town and 45 minutes from Furnace Creek, US-95 drivers between Vegas and Tonopah, and anyone visiting the Goldwell Open Air Museum's giant white plaster sculptures. Best options are the Death Valley Inn ($90 to $150), Motel 6 ($70 to $120) and the Atomic Inn ($80 to $140). Rates jump 40% during the Death Valley cool season (November to March) and drop sharply in July when the region hits 120°F.
It does not suit anyone expecting a real town — Beatty is a handful of motels, gas stations, one casino (the Stagecoach) and about six restaurants along US-95. It is a base, not a destination.
What is nearby
Rhyolite ghost town, one of Nevada's most photogenic ruins with the standing shell of the 1908 Cook Bank building, is 4 miles west toward Death Valley. The Goldwell Open Air Museum sits directly next to Rhyolite with Albert Szukalski's Last Supper sculpture. Death Valley's Hells Gate and Titus Canyon entrance is 20 minutes west; Furnace Creek and Badwater Basin are 45 to 60 minutes further. The Amargosa Opera House at Death Valley Junction is 40 minutes south and still stages performances.

Furnace Creek is in the park and closer to Badwater. Beatty is half the price, closer to Rhyolite and Titus Canyon, and has actual cell service.
Can I visit Death Valley in summer from Beatty?+
You can, but 115°F+ is genuinely dangerous. Stick to dawn drives and stay in air conditioning by 10am.
