Who Henderson is for
Henderson suits travelers heading to Hoover Dam, Lake Mead or the Valley of Fire, business travelers at the Henderson Executive Airport, and families who want space, chain restaurants and grocery stores nearby. Green Valley Ranch and Green Valley Ranch's District shopping runs $150 to $280 a night; the M Resort further south runs $130 to $250 with sweeping Strip views from the pool deck. Lake Las Vegas properties (Westin, Hilton Lake Las Vegas) start around $180 and climb in high season.
It does not suit anyone whose trip is centered on the Strip or Fremont — you are committing to a 20-minute drive or a $30 to $40 rideshare each way, several times a day. It also does not suit people without a rental car, especially at Lake Las Vegas which is a genuine 30 minutes from the airport.
What is within walking distance
At Green Valley Ranch you can walk to The District — a small outdoor shopping and dining strip with about 30 businesses including a REI. At the M Resort you can walk to essentially nothing; it sits alone at the southern edge of the valley. At Lake Las Vegas you can walk the MonteLago Village lakeside promenade with a handful of restaurants and a marina. Hoover Dam is 20 minutes by car from any Henderson base; Sloan Canyon petroglyphs are 15 minutes from the M.
