Las Vegas New Year's Eve: hotel guide

Strip fireworks from eight casinos, a closed boulevard, and $600 rooms — here is how NYE actually works.

The closure and the fireworks

Las Vegas Boulevard closes to vehicles from Sahara to Russell Road around 6pm on December 31 and reopens around 2am. Roughly 400,000 people fill the street. Fireworks launch simultaneously at 12:00am from the rooftops of eight casinos: Stratosphere (now Strat), Treasure Island, Venetian, Caesars, Planet Hollywood, Aria, MGM Grand and Circus Circus. The show runs about eight minutes.

The best free view is from the Strip itself, anywhere between Flamingo and Harmon. The best paid views are Strip-facing rooms at Cosmopolitan, Bellagio, Paris (Eiffel Tower side) and Caesars — you see multiple launches at once from a warm room.

Rates, minimums and requirements

Strip hotels enforce 3-4 night minimums covering December 30 through January 2. Rates run $400-900 at mid-tier properties (Flamingo, Linq, Paris standard rooms), $700-1,500 at Bellagio/Wynn/Cosmopolitan, and $200-350 downtown. Non-refundable deposits are standard.

Resort fees during NYE are the same as year-round ($40-55), but many hotels add mandatory NYE package add-ons — champagne toast, nightclub cover, buffet access — that push effective per-night cost higher. Read the room rate details carefully before clicking book.

Logistics for the night

Get to your viewing spot by 9pm. Rideshare shuts down inside the closure zone from about 6pm. Hotel valet is unusable — cars are stuck in the garage until 2am. If you are staying on the Strip, this is fine; if you are staying downtown or off-Strip and coming in, plan to arrive by mid-afternoon and stay until 2am at minimum.

Fremont Street downtown has its own party — different vibe, live bands on three stages, easier logistics, and cheaper rooms. Fireworks launch from the Plaza. It is loud, packed and fun. Circa, Golden Nugget, The D and Fremont Hotel are all inside the pedestrian zone.

Good to know

Can I bring a bag onto the Strip on NYE?+

No backpacks, no large bags, no glass. Metro Police search bags at pedestrian entry points. Bring a small clear bag or nothing.

Is a nightclub ticket worth it on NYE?+

Only if you buy months ahead. Walk-up cover charges hit $300-500 and lines are 90 minutes. Hakkasan, Omnia, XS and Zouk all sell tickets from October.
