Summerlin

The upscale master-planned suburb on the west edge of the valley, backing directly onto Red Rock Canyon. Summerlin is 22,500 acres of planned neighborhoods between the 215 Beltway and the Red Rock escarpment. It is where locals with money live — golf courses, Whole Foods, Downtown Summerlin outdoor mall with a Nordstrom Rack. The Red Rock Casino Resort on Charleston and Pavilion Center is the anchor: $200-$350 rooms, a 72-lane bowling alley, and 16 movie screens. At 9pm the parking lots are full and the sportsbook is packed on Sunday. This is the base camp for anyone doing Red Rock, Calico Basin or Mount Charleston. It suits business travelers who want quiet, wedding parties who want a resort without Strip chaos, and hikers who want to be at the Red Rock scenic loop trailhead in 15 minutes. It does not suit anyone who wants to walk to bars, wants downtown grit, or wants to gamble at $5 tables — minimums here are $15-$25. Rideshare to the Strip is 20-30 minutes and $25-$45.
