Day one: the Strip
Breakfast at Mr. Lucky's inside the Hard Rock (now Virgin Hotels) or Peppermill on the north Strip — both are old-school and open early. From 10am to 1pm walk mid-Strip: the Bellagio conservatory, the Forum Shops ceiling at Caesars, the Venetian canals, and the Wynn atrium. Lunch at Mott 32 in the Venetian or the food hall at Resorts World. From 2pm to 5pm pick one big-ticket: Sphere show, F1 pit lane tour if it's running, or the Neon Museum in the afternoon.
Dinner at 8pm somewhere you booked six weeks ago — Carbone, Bazaar Meat, or Delilah. See a 10pm show: Absinthe at Caesars, O at Bellagio, or a residency at the Sphere. Sleep at the Bellagio, Wynn, or Cosmopolitan so you can stumble home. If you are on budget, the Park MGM and Paris are the two best mid-Strip values.
Day two: downtown and a desert taste
Drive or rideshare to Red Rock Canyon by 8am — the 13-mile scenic loop takes 90 minutes with two short walks (Calico Tanks trailhead, Ice Box Canyon overlook). Back in town by noon. Lunch in the Arts District at Esther's Kitchen or Main Street Provisions. Spend 2pm to 5pm on Fremont Street East: the Neon Museum boneyard, cocktails at the Laundry Room inside Commonwealth (reservation required), and the container park.
Dinner at the Golden Steer, which has been open since 1958 and is where the Rat Pack ate — book two weeks out for a booth. Walk Fremont Street under the Viva Vision canopy at 9pm and 10pm for two different light shows. Sleep at Circa or the Downtown Grand — Circa's rooftop pool deck is the best downtown amenity and the sportsbook is the biggest in the world.

Should I split my two nights between Strip and downtown?+
Only if you are traveling light and don’t mind checking out mid-trip. For most people, pick one base and rideshare — a Strip-to-Fremont Uber runs $18 to $25 and takes 12 minutes off-peak.
Is Red Rock Canyon worth half a day on a two-day trip?+
Yes. It is 17 miles from the Strip, timed-entry reservations are required October through May, and the scenic loop plus one short hike is doable in three hours door to door. It is the single best reminder that Las Vegas sits in a real desert.
