Laughlin
Nine casino-hotels lined along the Colorado River across from Bullhead City, Arizona — cheap rooms and river tubing. Laughlin is 90 miles south of Las Vegas on the Colorado River at the Arizona line. Nine casino resorts — Aquarius, Edgewater, Colorado Belle (currently closed), Pioneer, Golden Nugget, Harrah's, Tropicana, Avi (Fort Mojave tribal), Riverside — sit shoulder-to-shoulder along Casino Drive with a paved Riverwalk connecting them all. Rooms start at $45-$75 midweek, buffets $18-$25, casino minimums $5-$10. At 9pm the boardwalk is medium-busy, mostly 55+, and a river taxi shuttles between casinos and the Arizona side. This is Vegas for the retiree crowd and Arizona day-trippers. It suits anyone who wants a casino trip at half the Vegas price, river tubing in summer, or a warm winter base (Laughlin's elevation is 500 feet, so January highs are 65°F). It does not suit anyone wanting Vegas-level shows, clubs or dining. The river is the draw — jet-ski rentals, sunset cruises on the USS Riverside, and float trips from Katherine Landing on Lake Mohave down through the casino strip.
